Arthrex Receives FDA Clearance for Pediatric ACL Surgery Implant Device

The ACL TightRope® II implant is a new device for reconstructing torn knee ligaments in children and adolescents.

FDA has provided clearance for the use of the ACL TightRope® II implant as a new device for reconstructing torn knee ligaments in children and adolescents, which was developed by researchers at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Arthrex to address the hesitancy among surgeons to operate on children whose growth plates in the legs had not fused.

The technology is based on a related device commonly used in adults undergoing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, but uses an adjustable-loop cortical suspensory fixation implant and flat SutureTape design, among other features specifically designed to accommodate the growing skeletons of young athletes.
